We took a lightning hit at Cougar Mt recently and lost the main repeater.   Unfortunately, Cougar is our Hub site and contains the controller and control of

Gold Mt, KO Peak, and Mt Octopus.   In other words,  the whole system is down right now and has been all week.

I currently have the unit on the bench and have repaired and replaced the defective components and will hopefully restore operation on June 25th.

I have removed the link package from Octopus in an attempt to find the intermittent transmit problem that has plagued the site since Summer.

I'm glad to inform you all that I was able to trouble shoot the problem to a circuit board with a hairline crack in the ceramic substrate. This has been repaired and the unit left to transmitt into a dummy load for the last two days.

So.....I pronounce this thing fixed (famous last words, Hi)

I will return the site to service in the next week or so depending on weather.

In the first week of Aug, 2010, the repeater antenna at Gold Mountain was replaced. The site seems to be working normally again.

As of now, all of the leases for the system are secure. The only glitch might be that DNR may not receive the funding for the Amateur Leases from the State. This does not mean we loose the site but it does mean that the site costs will go through the roof. If this happens, we will abandon Gold and Mt Octopus as the combined cost for both sites will be in excess of 4000.00 a year. I simpley cannot afford this as I am retired.

The site lease at Cougar Mt will not increase and the costs at the Weyerhauser site on K.O. Peak will stay pretty much the same.

The chances that we will shrink to a two site repeater are very high unless the economy turns around.
